Killian Drive

Killian Drive

Killian Drive, locally known as Killian Drive, Southwest 111th Street and Southwest 112th Street, is an east-west street that runs south of Miami in Miami-Dade County, Florida.

Killian Drive is named in honor of Dan Killian who was an area pioneer and county commissioner, responsible for the first area schools, churches and street lights.

His country store was about one block south of historic "Dice House", now SW 77 avenue and 100 street. Killian Drive pre-dates Coral Gables.

The eastern terminus is at Southwest 57th Avenue (Red Road) in the village of Pinecrest at Pinecrest Gardens (the former Parrot Jungle - this segment of the roadway is co-named Franz and Louis Scherr Street in honor of the founders of the world famous tourist attraction). From this point west it is Southwest 111th Street and goes a short distance through Pinecrest until it curves slightly south at Southwest 60th Court and becomes Southwest 112th Street at Southwest 61st Court. It continues west through Pinecrest until it crosses U.S. Route 1 (South Dixie Highway/Pinecrest Parkway) and enters unincorporated Miami-Dade County (Kendall).

The segment of Killian Drive extending from Dixie Highway ( U.S. Route 1 ) westward to Southwest 97th avenue is a protected and preserved road under the LAWS OF FLORIDA Ch. 95-434 Senate Bill No. 834 - Historic Designation of Killian Drive. See [http://www.killiandrivehistorical.org Killian Drive Historical Society] community website.

Killian Drive Historic Roadway was dedicated on October 14, 1995 with the help of Senator Mario Diaz-Balart, Commissioner Katy Sorenson, and local leader Tom Blakey.

It continues west through Miami-Dade County until a short distance after crossing Southwest 97th Avenue (Glades Drive), where it curves northwest and becomes the six lane divided highway Killian Parkway.

It continues northwest as Killian Parkway until it goes over SR 874 (Don Shula Expressway) and curves due west and also becomes Southwest 104th Street.

It continues west as Southwest 104th Street/Killian Parkway until it crosses Southwest 117th Avenue and is only Southwest 104th Street.

It continues west as Southwest 104th Street, a major east-west road through Kendall, until it terminates at Southwest 167th Avenue.
