Darlene Koldenhoven (born October 9 in Chicago) is an American singer/songwriter, arranger, keyboardist, record producer, author, actor, motivational speaker, and music therapist. She has a five-octave voice range and has won several awards including a Grammy awards in 1986 and three Grammy nominations, MVP award from NARAS, two Lifestyle Music Awards from New Age Reporter (NAR), Telly Award and Classic Telly Award, IBA award, and international Andy award from The Advertising Club of New York. Her vocal work can be heard on numerous films such as Sister Act and Sister Act II, and on records, commercials, live events, and television shows. She is a featured vocalist in the concert film, Yanni Live at the Acropolis. Two of her releases have topped new age radio charts. Koldenhoven has a professional children's choir known as The Young Vocal Artists of Los Angeles. She resides in Los Angeles and owns and operates her independent recording label, TimeArt Recordings.

Awards

Koldenhoven won a Grammy Award in 1986 as lead soprano in Clare Fischer's 2+2 in the category Best Jazz Vocal Performance by Duo or Group, and has received three Grammy nominations for her work with the same group. She was awarded an MVP award from NARAS; The Recording Academy for "Best Studio Singer" for singing on many movies, television shows, CDs, and commercials. She received two LifeStyle Music Awards for "Infinite Voice" (Best Vocal Album 2007), and "Heavenly Peace" (Best Holiday Album 2007). Koldenhoven also won a Telly Award and a Classic Telly Award for her song/video, "Love is an Action Word". She has an IBA Award for vocals for World's Best Television Commercial Humorous 1989 and an ANDY Award from The Advertising Club of New York 1990 for the same commercial "ABC Chicken Soup - Spa".

She has a Platinum album for her vocal work on Pink Floyd's A Momentary Lapse of Reason, as well as several other Gold and Platinum awards for her vocal work with other recording artists. She has recorded with artists such as Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Pink Floyd, Rod Stewart, David Byrne, Ramsey Lewis, among others. Koldenhoven has also appeared on camera singing in Studio 60, American Idol specials, Academy Awards (2000), Academy Awards (2010), among others. She has appeared in both "Sister Act" films and is known for her featured vocal solo "Aria" in Yanni Live at the Acropolis, adapted from the Delibes opera Lakmé.

Author/educator

Koldenhoven released a comprehensive music education book with seven instructional CDs called "Tune Your Voice: Singing and Your Mind's Musical Ear," distributed by Alfred Music. As a member of the Society of Composers and Lyricists, she has presented several seminars on the voice and composing for the voice. She has presented seminars for the Nebraska Music Educators Association, National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), among other organizations. She tours in concert and with her workshops on the voice, healing with music and the voice, and marketing for musicians.

She has served on the NARAS Board of Trustees for two terms, was a Los Angeles Chapter Second Vice President for one term, and Governor for six years, chairing several committees such as the Keyboard Symposiums and the Gospel Music Panel.

Koldenhoven has a professional children's choir known as The Young Vocal Artists of Los Angeles.
