"Other Voices, Other Rooms", Nanci Griffith's tenth album, is unusual in the singer-songwriter's catalog in that none of its songs was written by Griffith. Here she pays homage to other songwriters who have influenced her own career by covering their songs. Guest artists who appear in their own compositions include Frank Christian playing guitar on "Three Flights Up," Bob Dylan playing harmonica on "Boots of Spanish Leather," Arlo Guthrie in a duet on "Tecumseh Valley" and John Prine lending harmony vocals on "Speed of the Sound of Loneliness." Other musicians include Lee Satterfield (acoustic guitar, harmony vocal); Emmylou Harris (harmony vocal); Pete Kennedy (acoustic lead guitar, cathedral bell harmonic guitar (Three Flights Up), diamonds on acoustic guitar (From Clare to Here); Fran Breen (drums and percussion); Pat McInerney (percussion); James Hooker (piano, harmony vocal, keyboards, b-3 organ, barrel house piano); Stuart Duncan (mandolin, violin); Frank Christian (acoustic lead guitar); Philip Donnelly(acoustic and electric guitar, acoustic and electric lead guitar, high string acoustic parlor guitar, electric and acoustic high string guitar); Chet Atkins (acoustic guitar, classical guitar, delvecchio lead guitar); Roy Huskey Jr (upright bass)and many more. The album rose into the #54 position on the Billboard Pop Albums chart in 1993, although it had no charting singles.
