Kensington is a railway station in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, located in the suburb of Kensington, on the Craigieburn railway line. Kensington is unmanned and is in Metcard Zone 1.
Facilities
Kensington station is located at the northern end of the Macaulay Road level crossing, with station access from Macaulay Road and Eastwood Street.
The station consists of two side platforms: Platform 1 (Flinders Street bound) has a large old red brick building, while platform 2 (Craigieburn bound) has a smaller red brick building. A large Metcard ticket machine is located at the entrance to platform 1, able to dispense most ticketing options available and also accept notes and coins. A small coin-only Metcard machine is located at the entrance to platform 2.
A signal box is located at the Melbourne end of the station, and a siding exists for the nearby grain silos.
Special services to Flemington Racecourse and Showgrounds stations run though the station, but do not stop for passengers with signs on the platform advising customers of the fact.
History
