Brighton Beach is a railway station in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, located in the suburb of Brighton on the Sandringham railway line. Brighton Beach is classed as a Premium Station and is in Metcard Zones 1+2 overlap.
Facilities
The station is located at the northern end of the South Road level crossing, with station access from South and Beach Roads and Menzies Avenue.
The station consists of three platforms, two in an island format and two on a sharp curve. The island platform (platform 1 & 2, Flinders Street bound) has a large brick building with an enclosed waiting room, ticket facilities and toilets, while platform 3 (Sandringham bound) has a smaller brick building. A large Metcard machine is located at the entrance to platforms 1 & 2, which is able to dispense most ticketing options available and also accept notes and coins. A small coin-only Metcard machine is located at the entrance to platform 3. Sidings are adjacent to the station, which are currently in use for train modifications. A footbridge is situated at the up end of the station, whilst a signal box is situated at the end of platform 2 at the Sandringham end of the station.
History
Brighton Beach station opened on December 21 1861 as "Beach". It was renamed to "Brighton Beach" in 1867.
