Hallam is a railway station in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, located in the suburb of Hallam, on the Pakenham railway line. Hallam is unmanned and is in Metcard Zone 2.

Facilities

The station is located at the western end of the Hallam South Road level crossing, which provides station access.

The station consists of two side platforms, with both platforms having small steel shelters. A large Metcard machine is located at the entrance to platform 1, which is able to dispense most ticketing options available and also accept notes and coins. A small coin-only Metcard machine is located at the entrance to platform 2.

Hallam station is receiving upgrades due to the amount of passenger traffic it gets. New pedestrian lights have been installed at the railway crossing to help combat pedestrians crossing the notoriously busy Hallam South Road, and also signalled for when trains are arriving. It was also announced in May 2007 that the car park will be upgraded with 200 new spaces added.

History

Hallam station opened on December 1 1880 as "Hallam's Road", renamed to it's current name "Hallam" in 1904. [ [http://www.vicsig.net/index.php?page=infrastructure&name=Hallam VICSIG Infrastructure - Hallam] ]
