Overview

Chonbuk National University(CBNU) was founded in 1947, following the liberation of the Republic of Korea, by the Provincial fund within the framework of the Korean national university system; it is one of 10 Flagship Korean National Universities.

CBNU's mission is to help pursue excellence in teaching and research through truth seeking and further to develop the leadership character of new generations for the new global age; it was mandated to nurture the national ethos of pursuing truth through excellence in teaching and research in the ever-extending frontiers of human knowledge under the guiding philosophic principles of Liberty, Justice, and Creativity.

CBNU recognizes its mission as a higher learning institution that should help cultivate creative minds and leadership while fostering and preserving the equal opportunity for all members of society. Given such opportunities students endowed potentials will be fully developed so as to meet the challenges engendered by a rapidly changing world of great uncertainty. It believes that a creative mind coupled with a strong liberal education will enable the young emerging leadership to work effectively for the common good of society, and ultimately of the world.

From its inception, CBNU has taken great strides in the fields of humanities, social and natural sciences, engineering, and commerce. Further it has continued serving well for the regional as well as the national interest and aspiration for the better human conditions. CBNU has grown to one of the major among twenty-four national universities with fifteen colleges, seven graduate schools, and three professional graduate schools.

CBNU's Jeonju campus provides approximately 30,000 students and 2,000 faculty and staff members with superb educational, research and support facilities. As a leading national university, CBNU maintains many cooperative programs with other international educational institutions, and currently more than 500 international students are enrolled in its degree programs, in addition to around 100 international researchers. The number of international members and international cooperations has increased rather rapidly in the recent few years under the Chonbuk National University Vision 2020: Chonbuk National University to the Global Top 100.
