Cheju National University is the smallest one among 10 Flagship Korean National Universities in South Korea along with Seoul National University, Pusan National University Kyungpook National University, Chonnam National University, Chungnam National University, Chonbuk National University, Gyeongsang National University, Chungbuk National University, and Kangwon National University. The campus is situated in Jeju City, the provincial capital. There are more than 400 instructors. About 3,000 first-year students are admitted each year. In addition, a graduate enrollment of around 600 is carried.

Academics

The university's diverse undergraduate offerings are divided among nine colleges: the College of Humanities, College of Law & Political Science, College of Economics & Commerce, College of Education, College of Applied Life Sciences, College of Ocean Science, College of Natural Sciences, College of Engineering, and College of Medicine. There are three graduate schools: Public Administration, Business Administration, and Education.

History

Cheju Provincial Junior College was founded in 1952, and became a four-year college in 1955. It became Cheju National College in 1962, with faculties of Law and Science. The graduate school was established in 1979, and the college became a university in 1982.

The university has academic exchange relationships with 11 universities in seven countries. The largest number of these are Japanese institutions: sisterhood ties exist with Tohoku University, Nagasaki University, University of the Ryukyus, Saga University, Kagoshima University, and Soka University. In addition, relationships have been established with America's Purdue University and University of Nebraska at Lincoln, France's Pierre et Marie Curie University, Germany's Bonn University and Tubingen University, Russia's Moscow State University and Far Eastern State University, Taiwan's National Central University, and China's Nankai University, Shanghai Fisheries University, and Yanbian University Teachers' College.
