J P Nagar is a posh locality in South Bangalore, India. It is surrounded by Jayanagar, Banashankari, Bannerghatta Road and BTM Layout. Ragigudda Temple is a famous Landmark in JP Nagar.

History

The Jayaprakash Narayan Nagar ( JP Nagar ) was created during period of Ramakrishna Hegde as chief minister of Karnataka. In the beginning, this locality was basically a residential area. The area was dotted with bungalows and independent houses. The Information Technology boom in Bangalore in late 1990s and early 2000 converted it into a semi commercial area. It also led to rise of Apartment residential system.

Being a low lying area, this area is badly prone to floods. It was the worst affected area during the unseasonal rains in 2005 and 2007.

Arts

J P Nagar is home to many prominent singers, actors and artists. Famous residents of this locality include Kannada actor and politician Ambareesh, playwright and actor Girish Karnad, former Karnataka chief minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and actress Tara.
