Dixie Heights High School is a 5-A high school located at 3010 Dixie Highway in Edgewood, Kentucky.

History

The school was built by the Works Progress Administration. It opened for classes in 1936 and was dedicated by Eleanor Roosevelt. The main building is nearly identical in construction and materials to Simon Kenton High School, located in Independence, Kentucky. Before the renovations to both Dixie Heights High School and Simon Kenton High School, they were known as the sister schools. The school was originally to be named for Franklin D. Roosevelt. The school is on U.S. Route 25 (Dixie Highway)/U.S. Route 42.

Dixie Heights High School is in the Kenton County School District. The Superintendent is Tim Hanner. One of the programs Dixie has was put into action by Mr. Hanner. The program is called Hanner's Hero's. It is a program that the students at Dixie can participate in, to tutor elementary students. The High School students are trained in the One to One Reading Program, and use those tools to help their elementary student learn to read. In 2007 Dixie Heights ranked in the top 10% of Kentucky schools in state testing. The school earned a 7 out of 10 rating by GreatSchools, and the school has an overall community rating of 4 out of 5 stars.

In addition to tuition, students are given guidance related to post-secondary opportunities in the current job market, military, colleges, and technical school. The current Principal is Larry Tibbs. Dixie has two Assistant Principals; Karen Hendrix, and Matt Moore. There are about 1,300 Students that currently attend Dixie Heights High School.

Dixie Heights High School is 5A school, home to the Colonels, and the school colors are Red and Gray. The natural rival to Dixie, is Covington Catholic High School, who are the blue Colonels, along with Simon Kenton High School, Ryle High School, and Highlands High School.
