Linval Thompson (born
2 October 1954 [http://incolor.inebraska.com/cvanpelt/linvalgleaner.html] , Kingston,Jamaica ) is areggae and dub artist andrecord producer .Thompson was raised in Queens, New York and his recording career began aged 16 with "No Other Woman". Returning to Jamaica in the mid 1970s he recorded with
Phil Pratt , only to return to New York to studyengineering . Returning again to Jamaica, he worked withLee "Scratch" Perry at hisBlack Ark studio, recording "Kung Fu Man", and recorded withBunny Lee , which resulted in his debutalbum "Don't Cut Off Your Dreadlocks" in 1976. Thompson began to produce his own material, the first fruits being the Trojan album "I Love Marijuana" (1978) and its dub counterpart "Negrea Love Dub". Although he continued to work as asinger , he became increasingly prominent as a producer, working with key artists of the lateroots /earlydancehall era such asCornell Campbell ,The Wailing Souls ,Barrington Levy and Trinity, with releases through Trojan as well as his own Strong Like Sampson and Thompson Koosrecord label s.Thompson's productions were used as the basis of some of Scientist's best-known dub albums. He has also produced albums for artists such as
Dennis Brown ,Eek-A-Mouse ,Freddie McGregor , and the Viceroys.Thompson may be best known for his song "I Love Marijuana", featured prevalently on the
soundtrack to the 2004comedy film , "Eurotrip ".ee also
