Humbug Mountain lies on the southern coast of the U.S. state of Oregon about convert|6|mi|km|0 south of Port Orford, on the Pacific Ocean. U.S. Route 101 passes by its northern base. The mountain is within Humbug Mountain State Park and is one of the tallest mountains in the continental United States to rise directly from the ocean.Fact|date=March 2008 Its slopes feature an old-growth temperate rainforest. ] A three-mile trail runs from Brush Creek Canyon to its summit. The area is popular with hikers, campers, cyclists, and whale watchers.

History

Once known as Sugarloaf Mountain, it began to be called to Tichenors Humbug in 1851 when an exploring party sent by Captain William Tichenor, founder of Port Orford, got lost and headed north of Port Orford instead of south.] Since that time Tichenors Humbug came to be known as Humbug Mountain. Other names for the mountain were Mount Franklin (in 1853) and the Native American name "Me-tus".
