*Sir David Baird, 3rd Baronet DL (1832 –12 October 1913 ). Born inPrestonkirk ,Haddingtonshire , Baird succeeded his father in the baronetcy as the eldest surviving son in 1852. He served as an officer with the74th Regiment of Foot in theXhosa Wars of 1851 and 1852; in theCrimean War , and was on Lord Clyde's staff during theIndian Mutiny . He was subsequently a Captain in the98th Regiment of Foot , and was promoted Major. He was a member of two famous London clubs: theArmy and Navy Club , andWhite's Club . Baird was also wasDeputy Lieutenant for the counties of Haddingtonshire andMidlothian . He married, Ellen, daughter and heiress ofCharles Stuart, 12th Lord Blantyre , in 1864. At the turn of the century they inheritedLennoxlove nearHaddington and settled Newbyth House upon his son and heir David Baird (1865).
