The Drexel University College of Engineering is one of the oldest parts of the university. Engineering was the primary focus of Drexel when it was first started, and Drexel continues to be best known for its engineering curriculum. The modern College of Engineering houses the Computer Science Department, the Chemical and Biological Engineering Department, the Electrical and Computer Engineering department, Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics department, the Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering department, and the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. In addition to working on departmental research and teaching, professors from the College of Engineering participate in other interdisciplinary research areas such as nanotechnology, software engineering, biotechnology, earthquake engineering, robotics, information technology. The College of Engineering is the 3rd largest private engineering college in the United States.^{[citation needed]}

Legal Issues

Drexel's Department of Materials Science and Engineering has been the subject of two lawsuits since 2005. The first was a professor taking a nylon product from a commercial company and sharing it with its competitor, a company in Taiwan. Drexel lost the case and was fined $602,759.^[1] The second was brought by Alia Sabur, where Drexel University was accused of fraud and defamation, claiming that her advisor, Yury Gogotsi, sabotaged her Ph.D, stole her research and applied for grants based on her research in nanotechnology.^[2] The case went to binding arbitration in 2010.^[3]
