Johannes Andreas August Grabau (
March 18 ,1804 —June 2 ,1879 ) was an influential German-AmericanOld Lutheran pastor andtheologian .Grabau was born in Olvenstedt,
Prussia (now a part of greaterMagdeburg ,Germany ). He is usually mentioned as J.A.A. Grabau. He studied theology at theUniversity of Halle and became pastor of St. Andreas church inErfurt . He was jailed twice for refusing to use the Prussian union Agenda and was permitted to immigrate to America in summer 1839 with members of Lutheran congregations in Erfurt, Magdeburg, and elsewhere. He settled inBuffalo, New York and served as pastor of a Lutheran congregation for 40 years. He also founded the city's Martin Luther College and, onJuly 15 ,1845 , along with four pastors, became the founder of "The Synod of the Lutheran Church emigrated from Prussia" (known as "the Buffalo Synod") [ [http://www.faithforlife.com/ca/www/cyclopedia/02/display.asp?t1=B&word=BUFFALOSYNOD Buffalo Synod] "Christian Cyclopedia " ] .Shortly before the fortieth anniversary of his arrival in the United States, J.A.A.
