The Orange County Department on Aging is an organization in Orange County, NC that It provides services for people aged over 55 and for families supporting older family members. It is currently directed by Jerry M. Passmore and administrated by Kathie Kearns.

Orange Public Transportation

The Orange Public Transportation program is a division of the Orange County Department on Aging that offers van and bus service outside the Chapel Hill-Carrboro city limits including planning and coordinating for county residents with transportation needs. It serves the general public and the clients of community service agencies, primarily in rural areas of the County.

Wheels for Work Transportation Assistance

Managed by Bill Matthews, the Wheels for Work Transportation Assistance program provides vehicle renting, carpooling, and vanpooling to eligible low-income working for a small monthly fee. The program gives funds to low-income families to assist them with car repairs, and vehicle insurance, and car payments. In some cases, it also provides financial assistance to cover bus pass, vanpool or carpool costs. The program accepts both vehicle, and monetary donations.

enior and Community Centers

The department runs three senior centers in Chapel Hill, Central Orange County, and Northside. The senior centers provide lunches, social events, programs, trips, and Wellness programs and classes to the elderly. The department also runs two community centers, with similar to the Senior Centers. The community centers are locked in Efland-Cheeks and Northern Orange.

Committees

The Department on Aging has three committees: Adult Care, Aging, and Nursing. In the the Adult Care committee, members serve as spokesmen for residents in family care, adult care, and developmentally disabled adult homes. The Aging committee serves as a link between the elderly citizens of Orange County and the County Government concerning aging issues. The nursing committee works toward keeping the public informed about aspects of long-term care and the operations of all nursing homes in the county, and aids persons with grievance resolution regarding residents' rights issues at facilities within Orange County.
