Winding Refn moved to the United States in 1981 and graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1993. He is famous for directing the Pusher trilogy.[1] His film Drive premiered in competition at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival where it won him the Best Director Award.[2]
Winding Refn was born in Copenhagen and raised partly in New York.[3] He is married to actress Liv Corfixen, with whom he has two children.[4] His parents are Danish film director and editor Anders Refn and cinematographer Vibeke Winding.[5] His half-brother is Danish singer Kasper Winding.[6]
