Sitting in the balcony of his church and looking at the congregation, Moen wanted a "simple song of thanks" and praise that would allow the people to thank the Lord in an uncomplicated way. He prayed the Lord to give him a song that would allow people to thank the Lord easily. The song that the Lord gave was "Thank You Lord", the title cut of the album.
