History

After the smash album Cuts Both Ways and the near-tragic accident that happened to Gloria during the "Get on Your Feet Tour", Gloria portrayed her emotion in a new album called, "Into the Light." The theme of the album is bouncing back from the darkness of disaster, hence the album's title.

The album received a favorable welcoming not only from commercial success, but in the charts and the professional reviews. The album has sold 3.8 million copies to date.

The album was slightly different than her previous ones in that the songs on the album were more in a soft-rock/lite style than her previous well-known Latin ones.

The lead single, "Coming Out of the Dark" came about from an experience Gloria's husband, Emilio, had on a helicopter while riding with Gloria to New York for surgery. As the helicopter was going through the dark and dreary sky, a ray of light suddenly shined through the sky, hence the title, "Coming Out of the Dark." The song quickly was certified gold after selling 500,000 copies and reached the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart and on the Billboard Adult Contemporary Chart. Gloria also recorded the song in Spanish as "Desde La Oscuridad" which reached #4 on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks.

The second single, "Seal Our Fate" was rock-oriented and reached #53 on the Billboard Hot 100, and #24 in the UK. The third single differed for several markets, "Can't Forget You", a dramatic ballad about the effects of a break-up, was chosen for the US. It reached #43 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #2 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary. "Remember Me With Love" was released in the UK and reached the top 20. "Nayib's Song (I Am Here For You) was released in Europe as third single, without any chart success. The last U.S. single, "Live for Loving You" reached #22 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #2 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary.
