The version most often heard today is the latter-day hit version recorded by Mel Carter, reaching #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and #1 on the "Easy listening" chart in 1965. The title was also used as the title for Gloria Estefan's 1994 album of covers, and was later referenced by U2's 1995 song "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me".
