Alex Popov was born in
Shanghai of Russian parents and moved toSydney aged twelve. He was educated atNewington College (1958-1960) [Newington College Register of Past Students 1863-1998 (Syd, 1999) pp 158] and theUniversity of Sydney before studying further inDenmark . Popov graduated in architecture from theRoyal Danish Academy of Art in 1971 and then worked withHenning Larsen andJørn Utzon . He returned to Australia in 1983 and established Alex Popov Architects Pty Ltd (now known as Alex Popov & Associates). The practice has been successful in a number of design competitions and has received numerous major awards from theRoyal Australian Institute of Architects including severalWilkinson Award s and theRobin Boyd Award .Key works
