- National Games Week
-
National Games Week is an annual event occurring on Thanksgiving week in the U.S.A. Its purpose is to promote forms of socially interactive games. After the primary sponsor of this event (Games Quarterly magazine) passed to new owners in March 2007, the status of the event was in doubt; however, the continuing organization of this event has been taken over by others and the event will take place as before.
The week is the brainchild of Mark Simmons, the former publisher of Games Quarterly magazine. That publication has been recently replaced by Greater Game Industry Catalog, which promotes non-electronic games: Board, card, role-playing, family, general interest, party, miniatures and educational games.
In November 2009, the National Games Week Foundation, inc. was formed as a non-profit corporation for the furtherance of all non-electronic game play, and as a mutual benefit organization supporting all tiers of the game industry.
