Sept-Rivières Regional County Municipality, Quebec
- Sept-Rivières Regional County Municipality, Quebec
Sept-Rivières (French for "Seven-Rivers") is a regional county municipality of Quebec in the Côte-Nord region. Its county seat is Sept-Îles.
Geography
Sept-Rivières is located in the central part of Côte-Nord. It is bordered by the regional county municipalities of Manicouagan, Caniapiscau, and Minganie, as well as by the southwest corner of Labrador and by the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. It is mostly covered by the Laurentian mountains. It is a very urbanized (75% of the population) region. It allegedly takes is name from 7 rivers that join the Saint Lawrence within the territory: Moisie, Sainte-Marguerite, Trinité, Pentecôte, aux Rochers, Pigou and Manitou. Unfortunately, neither the Trinité river nor the Pigou river reaches the Saint Lawrence within the limit of the county regional municipality, and many other rivers could be amongst those "seven rivers". The municipality has a land area of 30,469.17 km² (11,764.21 sq mi) and a 2006 census population of 34,713 inhabitants, the vast majority (73.5%) in the city of Sept-Îles, in its southeast. The census grouped the municipality's territory with that of Caniapiscau Regional County Municipality, to its northwest.
