U.S. Route 97 Alternate or U.S. Route 97A is a 39.95-mile (64.29 km) alternate route of U.S. Route 97. US 97 Alt. opened in 1926 as part of U.S. Route 97. The current U.S. Route 97 was called SR 151 at the time, became part of US 97 in 1987, US 97 Alternate was designated. The route runs on the west side of the Columbia River parallel to US 97 from Wenatchee to Chelan. It is concurrent with SR 150 through Chelan. Route description

US 97 Alt starts out at US 97/US 2 north of Wenatchee in a partial cloverleaf interchange. After passing the town, US 97 Alt travels northeast to Winesmap, where it intersects SR 971. After that, Alt 97 travels northeast back to SR 971 before continuing east to Chelan. There, Alt 97 continuies eastward intersecting SR 150 before ending at US 97. History

U.S. Route 97 Alternate was established in 1923 as State Road 10. The designation was changed in 1926 when State Road 10 was co-signed with U.S. Route 97, which used the route of current US 97 Alternate. In 1937, State Road 10 became Primary State Highway 10 or PSH 10. PSH 10 was decomissioned in 1964 and became U.S. Route 97 with no co-designation. Then, in 1987, the route known then as SR 151 became US 97 and the old US 97 route became US 97 Alternate.

The route is entirely in Chelan County.
