The company is controlled by the family of Albert Frère. It was for many years part of the BEL20 index on the Brussels stock exchange.
The company jointly controls Pargesa Holding, which in turn controls investment holding company Groupe Bruxelles Lambert. In addition NPM/CNP directly holds stakes in a number of industrial companies, which at the end of 2010 included Total (1.4%), Iberdrola (0.6%), Métropole Télévision (7.1%), Trasncor Astra Group (80%), Banca Leonardo (19.4%), Affichage Holding (25.3%), Distripar (100%), Cheval Blanc (40%), Fidentia (50%), Groupe Flo (35.8%), Belgian Icecream Group (100%) and Trasys (50%).[2]
In March 2011 the Frère family and BNP Paribas made a €1.5 billion offer for the 27.8% of NPM/CNP not already owned by the two entities.[3] The bid was made through the company Fingen, 53% owned by the Frère family with the remainder held by BNP. The NPM/CNP share was removed from the BEL 20 index on 2 May 2011 after Fingen announced that 96.4% of shareholders had accepted its tender offer.[4]
