Dwarkadas Jivanlal Sanghvi College of Engineering (D.J. Sanghvi, or DJ, as it is popularly known) is an engineering college in Mumbai. The College has been graded A+ by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE)[citation needed]. The College was established by Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal in 1994.

History

D J Sanghvi College of Engineering was established in 1994. It was named after Shri Dwarkadas Jivanlal Sanghvi, an industrialist. Born in Rajula, Gujarat on September 17, 1913, Dwarkadas was an enterprising, hard worker who traveled to Rangoon, Calcutta and eventually settled down in Bombay, where he founded Balkrishna Pens Private Limited and introduced the very famous brand of fountain pens - Wilson Pens. In fact, the Constitution of India was written by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar with a Wilson pen.[citation needed]

The College was born out of the efforts of its parent body Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal which, with prior approval from the University of Mumbai, the Government of Maharashtra, the Directorate of Technical Education and the All India Council for Technical Education, decided to establish a engineering college.

One of the best institutions, in Mumbai and is ranked 45 in The Top Engineering Colleges of India.

Location

The College is located in Vile Parle, a suburb of Mumbai. It is easily accessible from both Vile Parle and Andheri Railway Stations. It can also be reached by BEST Bus No. 229, 224, 707, 33, 38, 222,627, AS-707, 201. Cooper Hospital bus-stop is outside the college. Important landmarks around the College include Cooper Hospital and Bhaidas Hall.

The College has an intake capacity of 360 students in 7 branches for Bachelor of Engineering degree:-

  1. Chemical Engineering - 60 seats
  2. Electronics Engineering - 60 seats
  3. Production Engineering - 30 seats
  4. Biomedical Engineering - 30 seats
  5. Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering - 120 seats
  6. Information Technology - 60 seats
  7. Computer Science - 120 seats
  8. Mechanical Engineering - 60 seats (STARTED FROM THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2011 - 2012)

In addition to this, 10-15 diploma students more are admitted every year during the second year of the Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Electronics, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering,Computer Science and Information Technology. Around 5 diploma students are added in the remaining branches.

Infrastructure

The Library, named 'Manubhai P. Knowledge Centre', is situated on the first floor of the College building. It occupies more than 60,000 sq ft (5,600 m2). of space. It is facilitated with reprography & also Wi-fi network connection. There are about 14,000 books, 70 - printed journals & magazines (National & International) with 4 online databases. (IEL Online, ASME, ACM, & Springer Link.)

Festivals

The annual cultural festival of the college is known as "Parichay". It is held in February or March every year and is attended by engineering students from colleges all over Mumbai. The college also hosts a technical fest named "Pulse". The festival includes various events like wired, wireless and autonomous robotics, programming contests and quizzes, paper presentations, technical exhibition besides workshops and seminars by eminent faculty from across Mumbai.
