History
WSJV first began broadcasting on
March 15 ,1954 , initially as anNBC affiliate with a secondary ABC affiliation. It was owned by Elkhart's daily newspaper, "The Truth." In1955 , it became a sole ABC affiliate after losing its NBC affiliation toWNDU-TV .Initially broadcasting on channel 52, WSJV switched to channel 28 in
1958 .WSJV began broadcasting in color in
1966 , with all local programs aired in color starting in1968 . Current owner Quincy Newspapers bought the station in1974 .On
October 18 ,1995 , WSJV became an affiliate of the Fox Broadcasting Company. This came in part because Fox had begun airingNFL games, and wanted a stronger outlet than its previous affiliate, low-powered W58BT. When WSJV picked up Fox, it swapped affiliations with W58BT, which is now WBND.Although the station is licensed to Elkhart, it usually identifies as only "South Bend" rather than "Elkhart/South Bend."
