television station to operate inRochester, Minnesota and the third station in the state afterKSTP-TV and WTCN-TV, coming online in 1953 with the callsign KROC-TV.The station was launched by

As KROC, the station carried programming from all four commercial networks of the 1950s: ABC,CBS ,NBC , and DuMont [http://www.ellwanger.tv/collect/tvg/eds/old/nw.html] . It is Minnesota's third-oldest television station, and the oldest outside the Twin Cities. The family operation eventually became the
Southern Minnesota Broadcasting Company , though the TV station was sold toQuincy Newspapers , Inc. in 1976 and changed its name.Today, the station shares studios with
KXLT-TV channel 47, a Fox affiliate; and Signal Hill CW, the local CW affiliate available on cable and digital subchannel. "Signal Hill" denotes the studio location, at the northern-most point of Rochester, Minnesota, on the hill at the north end of Bandel Road, NW.KTTC's transmitter is located very near the
