General information

The School's 'vision': Advancing the field of 'transformational development', the School of Leadership and Development (SLD) equips change agents to end poverty and injustice in their communities, their countries and the world. This school is a part of Eastern University, located in St. Davids, Pennsylvania. History

The Economic Development program was founded in 1984 under the leadership of Tony Campolo, Lin Geiger, Robert Seiple and others. Programs continued to grow and flourish, including concentrations in International and Urban Economic Development. In 1999, the School of 'International' Leadership and Development was established, concurrent with the signing of a partnership with World Vision International to deliver an MBA in NGO Leadership. In 2003, Habitat for Humanity International joined the endeavor, the degree being offered was changed to MA in Organizational Leadership, and the School removed 'International' from its name so it could better serve domestic and global audiences. Beginning in 2006, the school began offering an MA in International Development and various certificates in leadership and development.
