(2003)|"Home" is the sixth
studio album by American country bandDixie Chicks , released in 2002 (see2002 in music ). It is notable for its acoustic bluegrass sound, which stands in contrast with their previous twocountry pop albums. The album has the distinction of being the album the group was promoting when lead singer
Natalie Maines made comments about U.S. PresidentGeorge W. Bush . The album's third single, "Travelin' Soldier ", was #1 on the Billboard Country Chart the week that Maines' comments hit the press. The following week, as many stations started a still-standing boycott of the Chicks' music, the song collapsed. None of the following singles gained traction with country radio.Despite these events, the album was certified 6× Multi-platinum status by the
RIAA , having shifted 6 million units. [http://www.riaa.com/gp/database/search_results.asp] The album also featured a cover ofFleetwood Mac 's "Landslide", which was their biggest pop crossover hit to date, reaching #7 on theBillboard Hot 100 . Two of this album's tracks were previously recorded by other acts: "Travelin' Soldier" by its writer,Bruce Robison , and later byTy England on 1999's "Highways & Dance Halls ", and "Landslide" byRadney Foster on 1999's "See What You Want to See ".The album was also successful in Australia, in its 175th week in the country charts it was certified Triple Platinum for shipments of 210,000 copies.
