Oakland Fire Department Established March 13, 1869 Staffing Career Strength 500 Stations 25 Engines 25 Trucks 7 Rescues 1 Fireboats 0 EMS Level ALS Non Transport The city of Oakland, California is protected 24/7 by the 500 professional firefighters of the Oakland Fire Department(OFD). The Oakland Fire Department is the only fire and rescue agency in the city of Oakland and operates out of 25 Fire Stations, located throughout the city and the airport. In addition, the OFD operates a fire apparatus fleet of 25 Engines, 7 Trucks,3 Battalion Chiefs, 1 Heavy Rescue,1 Rescue Boat 1 Hazardous Materials Unit, 1 Portable Air Cascade Unit, 5 Airport CRASH Trucks,1 Communications/Command Unit and numerous other special, support, and reserve units. The Oakland Fire Department responds to, on average, approximately 60,000 emergency calls annually, with 80% being emergency medical services calls.
