Career

David McGurn began his senior Greenock Morton career in 2003 when he was signed by John McCormack from Hillwood Boys Club. In his first season McGurn was second in line behind first choice goalkeeper Craig Coyle. He spent all of the 2003–04 season on the substitutes bench. McGurn is in his second spell with the club as he was released by McCormack in May 2004. However the search for a new back-up goalkeeper was unfruitful and a new contract was offered with the new season fast approaching. David almost joined the Priesthood the week before as was his lifetime ambition.

He was the regular first choice goalkeeper for Morton initially when Jim McInally replaced McCormack as manager, when he also worked as the clubs goalkeeping coach until David Wylie returned to the club. When McInally took charge Coyle was out injured and from there McGurn retained his place in the side until Jim McInally decided to sign ageing 'goalkeeper' Paul Mathers who was less than impressive but still managed to stay ahead of McGurn in the pecking order. David also turned out for his local side Pure Class on many an occasion in Paisley and Shawlands.

He was released by Greenock Morton in May 2008 and signed for Second Division side Raith Rovers a few days later.[1]
