John McCormack (born 1955-04-25 in Glasgow) is a Scottish former footballer who played as a defender for a number of Scottish clubs. He has also managed several sides and until 2008-09-01 was assistant manager of Hamilton Academical in the Scottish Premier League.

Career

McCormack began his playing career in 1976 with Clydebank, making over 100 league appearances and scoring 24 times before joining St Mirren in 1980. A similar length of service followed at Love Street before a 1984 move to Dundee, which saw McCormack spend a couple of years at Dens Park. In 1986, McCormack moved back to the west of Scotland, spending single seasons with Airdrieonians and Partick Thistle before retiring in 1988.

Following his retirement from playing, McCormack moved back to Dundee as assistant manager, becoming manager in 1997. Just months later, McCormack was sacked – despite Dundee leading the Scottish First Division – and went on to join Queens Park. In November 2002, McCormack was appointed manager of Morton, [cite news|url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/scot_div_3/2488855.stm|title=Morton appoint McCormack|date=2002-11-20|publisher=BBC Sport|accessdate=2008-09-02] guiding the club to the Scottish Third Division title in his first season. After losing a large lead at the top of the Second Division near the end of the 2003-04 season, McCormack was sacked in September 2004. McCormack was appointed manager of Scottish Third Division side Albion Rovers in May 2007, [cite news|url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/a/albion_rovers/6709611.stm|title=Albion Rovers appoint McCormack|date=2007-05-31|publisher=BBC Sport|accessdate=2008-09-02] guiding the side to seventh place in his first season. In June 2008, McCormack left his position to take up an assistant role at new Scottish Premier League side Hamilton Academical, [cite news|url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/h/hamilton_academical/7479161.stm|title=McCormack new Accies assistant|date=2008-06-28|publisher=BBC Sport|accessdate=2008-09-02] only to leave two months later.
