Beit HaKerem (Bible)

Beit HaKerem (Hebrew בית הכרם, literally "house of the vineyard") is a biblical place in the Tribe of Judah (Neh. 3:14). Some opinions believe that this place is identical with Ein Kerem, or "well of the vineyards," near which there is a ridge on which are cairns which may have served as beacons of old, one of which is 40 feet high and 130 in diameter, however there are widely held opinions which place Beit HaKerem south of Jerusalem, either at Ramat Rachel [http://72.14.209.104/search?q=cache:m5Lr82HwRV4J:www.ramatrachel.co.il/ARCHEOLOGY/rr-updated.doc+beth+hakerem+ramat&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=3&client=firefox-a] , or at a place near Tekoa that later became known as Herodium [http://www.christnotes.org/dictionary.php?dict=sbd&id=733] [http://jewishencyclopedia.com/view.jsp?artid=972&letter=B] . Here people heard the trumpet against the invading army of Babylon (Jer. 6:1).
