List of volcanoes in Canada
- List of volcanoes in Canada
Western Canada is commonly thought to occupy a gap in the Pacific Ring of Fire, although that is not actually true. British Columbia and the Yukon Territory are home to more than 100 separate volcanic centers that have been active during the Quaternary, such as shield volcanoes, stratovolcanoes, maars, cinder cones and calderas. Mount Edziza is a large shield volcano that has had repeated eruptions for a period of over 7-10 million years, and has cinder cones on its flanks, such as Eve Cone. Although there have not been any historical eruptions recorded in Canada, native legends of lava flows destroying homes, villages, killing fish and natives being killed by volcanic gas are confirmed by radiocarbon dates of 200-250 years ago on carbonized wood beneath the basaltic lava flows in the Iskut-Unuk River in the Northern Cordilleran Volcanic Province. The lava flows are considered to be from the Tseax River Cones and the Lava Fork Valley.
This is a list of active, dormant and extinct volcanoes in Canada.
