John Wayne Parkway in Maricopa, Arizona which is in Pinal County, Arizona. Maricopa was added as a stop for the Sunset Limited after Amtrak was forced to withdraw service from Phoenix due to deteriorated track conditions on a secondary Union Pacific Railroad track which diverged from the mainline to serve Phoenix.[2]
On display is a restored Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad dome car, The Silver Horizon (car #375).[3] The dome car, at one time in use as the station office, proved unsuitable and has been replaced by the former Tucson, Arizona station building, a double-wide modular trailer coach that was rolled on to the site after the original historic Tucson Union Station structure restoration was completed in 2005.
Passenger rail service is provided thrice-weekly in each direction by the Sunset Limited. Of the eight Arizona stations served by Amtrak, Maricopa was the fourth busiest in FY2010, boarding or detraining an average of approximately 24 passengers daily.[4]
