Thomas Nelson Community College (abbreviated form: TNCC) is a two-year college located in southeastern Virginia. It has two campuses - one located in Hampton, and the other in Williamsburg. The institution is one of the twenty-three colleges in the Virginia Community College System. It mostly serves students living on the Peninsula region of Hampton Roads, but it also has students from other parts of southeastern Virginia.
History
The college was named after Thomas Nelson, an American soldier, planter, politician, and signer of the Declaration of Independence [http://tncc.edu/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1441&Itemid=384] .
The construction of TNCC began in August 1967. Four buildings were planned for construction, and the cornerstone was laid in December 1967. More than 1,200 Students began classes on September 20th, 1968, and the first class of students graduated with associate degrees on June 13th, 1970 [http://tncc.edu/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1441&Itemid=384] .

In the Fall of 2004, there were 8,515 students. 61.37% of the student body was female, whereas 38.63% was male [http://www.vccs.edu/vccsasr/Research/gender04.htm] . The racial makeup of the student body was 55.87% White, 35.06% Black, 0.56% Native American, 4.0% Asian, and 1.2% from other races. 3.3% of the students were Hispanic or Latino of any race [http://www.vccs.edu/vccsasr/Research/race04.htm] .
Tuition
As of fall 2008, tuition for in-state students is $81.65 per credit hour. Tuition for out-of-state students is $253.80 per hour. Institutional fee for fall and spring is $10.50 per semester, and is $7.25 for summer semesters. The VCCS technology fee is $4.50 per credit hour.
