Ura Nage is generally treated as a counter technique from uke's attempt at a forward throw such as
O Goshi . As a counter fromO Goshi tori steps off uke's throw so that he is at uke's side, here tori takes a grip with both hands on Uki's belt (one in front, one behind). Tori then falls backward and lifts uke with his arms simultaneously such that uke goes over tori's head.Technique history
