Kim Heechul (born July 10, 1983), also credited as Heechul, is a singer, entertainer, and the second oldest member of Korean boy band Super Junior. He is known as Cinderella (신데렐라) by his fans and they often refer to him as "Heenim" (희님). Likewise, Heechul calls his fans "Petals" (꽃잎). [ko icon [http://cyworld.com/yuri9doo Heechul's Cyworld] ]

Pre-debut years

Kim was born in Gangwon-do, South Korea to a bourgeois family. He has one older sister, Kim Heejin.

He joined under the management of SM Entertainment after he auditioned in the "Starlight Casting System" in 2002 when he was in Seoul. Along with Hero Jaejoong, U-know Yunho, and future bandmate Kang-in, their talent agency placed them in a small project music group called Four Seasons, with each of the four members representing the four seasons of the year. The prospective group never saw the light when the two members, Hero Jaejoong and U-know Yunho, were chosen to join another all-male singing group TVXQ, which debuted in December of 2003.

Music career

2005–present: Super Junior

With two members gone, the idea of Four Seasons dropped. The remaining two members of Four Seasons, Kim and Kang-in, were then placed in another project group, Super Junior, along with ten other trainees under the same company. This project group managed through well, and debuted two years later in 2005 under the name Super Junior 05, the first generation of Super Junior.

On November 6, 2005, Heechul finally debuted with the other eleven members in Super Junior 05 on SBS's music program "Popular Songs", performing the first single "TWINS (Knock Out)." The group released their full studio album a month later, and the album debuted as #3 on the monthly MIAK K-pop album charts.cite news | author= | title=Album Sales of December 2005 | date= | work=Recording Industry Association of Korea | pages=1 | url=http://www.miak.or.kr/stat/kpop_200512.htm | accessdate=2007-10-16 | language=Korean] As the group's second single, "Miracle", came to an end, his talent agency was about to recruit new members for the next Super Junior generation, Super Junior 06, with Heechul still as an undergraduate member of Super Junior. However, plans changed when the company added in a thirteenth member, Kyuhyun, and the company declared that future Super Junior generations were rumors. The group dropped the suffix "05" and became officially Super Junior. The new group hit big after they released their first CD single "U" the following summer in 2006, which became Super Junior's most successful single in the music charts, leading Super Junior to set #1 records in their music career since then.

In early 2007, Kim was placed in Super Junior's second sub-unit, Super Junior-T, a six-piece trot-singing subgroup. The group debuted on February 25, 2007 on "Popular Songs" with their title song, "Rokuko". Super Junior-T released their first single, "Rokkugo" on February 23, 2007, ultimately selling 45,998 units by the end of the year, ranked as the sixteenth best-selling album of the year and he first best-selling single of the year. Kim has made many contributions to Super Junior's lyrics. His first production, along with bandmates Shindong and Eunhyuk, was the rap lyrics to "Show Me Your Love," a joint single of Super Junior with TVXQ. Television and acting career

2005–present: Teen idol

Like bandmate Kim Kibum, Kim made his first television appearance as an actor and not as a member of Super Junior. He starred in the 2005 teen drama, "Sharp 2", which he acted alongside Kim Kibum. Soon afterwards Heechul became a popular television actor and made frequent appearances such as filming for commercials and hosting programs on television.

HeeChul furthered his acting career after Super Junior's debut, having a lead role in MBC's youth sitcom "Rainbow Romance" with Kim Kibum. He made his primetime debut in the SBS drama "Bad Family". Before his music debut, Heechul started his hosting career by being a regular MC for "KM Show! Music Tank". Soon after the debut of Super Junior he switched to hosting SBS's "Popular Songs". He has also been a DJ of his own radio show, "SBS Power FM Youngstreet" along with Park Heebon, but the program ended in mid-2006. Aside from acting, singing, and hosting, Kim also became an active participant in variety shows, making frequent appearances on "Heroine 6", "Vitamin", "Sponge", "X-man" and "Love Letter".

2008: "Xanadu"

From September 9 to November 9, 2008,HeeChul, along with bandmate Kang-in, will debut as musical actors through the musical, "Xanadu". "Xanadu" was a 1980's musical film starring Gene Kelly and Olivia Newton John. "Xanadu" has also been reproduced to a Broadway musical. Kim and Kang-in will be performing the same character, Sonny, according to their time slot, and auditions and casting picks will be chosen in a process through reality television.cite news | author=Lee Hyunwoo | title=SuJu Kim Heechul-Kang-in preparing to transform into musical actors in "Xanadu" | date=2008-05-12 | work=Newsen | pages=1 | url=http://media.paran.com/snews/newsview2.php?dirnews=1155314&year=2008 | accessdate=2008-06-18 | language=Korean]

Notable events

Car accident

HeeChul suffered a major injury from a car accident that occurred on the night of August 10, 2006, when he was heading back to Seoul from Mokpo, where he went to attend fellow Super Junior member Donghae's father's funeral. The tires malfunctioned while his car attempted to switch lanes. From this accident, he fractured four to five places on his left leg including his femur, knee, and ankle which required a 6-hour surgery and sustained several other injuries including a tear to his tongue which required stitches. He was advised to stop all activities for a period of twelve weeks. [ko icon [http://www.chosun.com/se/news/200608/200608100327.html '슈퍼주니어' 김희철, 교통사고로 대퇴부 골절] ] He was released from the hospital on September 13, 2006 and received outpatient care. He returned to the hospital to have a second surgery to remove some of the iron rods in his leg on October 10, 2006. He returned to work briefly in late October to film the final three episodes of the MBC youth sitcom "Rainbow Romance" while still in a cast and in a wheelchair. It wasn't until late December when Heechul officially returned to individual activities such as variety show appearances and hosting appearances. In February 2007 he was able to perform on stage as a member of Super Junior-T. He started performing with Super Junior as a whole (whose dance routines are more strenuous than those of Super Junior-T) in late April and early May. Five rods remain in his legs, which required yet another surgery later on.
