Mangan is an Irish surname anglicised from the Gaelic Ó Mangáin ‘descendant of Mangán’, originally a byname for someone with a luxuriant head of hair (from mong ‘hair’, ‘mane’), borne by families from Connacht, County Limerick, and Tyrone.
