Brownell-Talbot School is Nebraska's oldest school in continuous operation, founded in 1863, and the state's only private, independent, co-educational, college preparatory day school. It is located in Omaha, Nebraska. It is a prep school in name, but does in fact offer pre-kindergarten through high school. Brownell-Talbot is known in Omaha for its superb academics and wide diversity of students.

History

In the mid-19th century, Omaha joined progressive cities that were establishing schools for girls' education. The Episcopal Church founded Brownell Hall, an all-girls secondary boarding school in Saratoga. It officially opened on September 15, 1863. Located at present-day 24th and Grand Streets, this private religious school was named after an Episcopal bishop of New York, and was first located in the Saratoga Springs Hotel, a defunct resort. Students came to the school from Nebraska City, Bellevue, Florence, Fontanelle, Decatur and Omaha. [Morton and Watkins. (1916) "History of Nebraska." p 515.] The school moved to downtown Omaha in 1868, and in the 1920s it moved to a central Omaha location. Today it is the oldest continuing school in Nebraska. [Morton and Watkins. (1916) p 515.] [(1993). " [http://www.btaquatics.org/B-T%20History.htm From Pony Express to Wireless: Brownell-Talbot College Preparatory School: 140 Years of History] ". Media

The 1999 Omaha film, "Election" (starring Matthew Broderick, Reese Witherspoon, and Chris Klein), had a very short scene where the movie camera was rolling on Brownell Talbot's Skutt Field. It was a soccer game going on at the time of the filming. It had the same bleachers, scoreboard, and field as Brownell-Talbot. One other idea is that one girl in the movie was walking down from Memorial Park, and then by Skutt Field.

Another film that is very close to Brownell-Talbot's area is "I Am Sam". I Am Sam took place in Dundee, a small neighborhood next to the school.
