Rye is an outer suburb of Melbourne on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, Australia. Its Local Government Area is the Shire of Mornington Peninsula.

History

The Post Office opened on 18 January 1858 as Tootgarook and was renamed Rye in 1870. Citation

Today

The town has two Service Clubs, these being the Rotary Club of Rye and the Lions Club of Rye. Both organisations are heavily involved within the local community. Rye also has a Probus Club. Rye's summer carnival is located beside the pier carpark, and is home of the annual sand sculptures. It is a popular location during vacation periods, especially for graduating VCE students.

The town has an Australian Rules football team competing in the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League.
