Mayerling (fictional character)

Mayerling (Meier Link in English) is the main "antagonist" in the anime production, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, and also from the book, Yôsatsukô (Demon Deathchase in English), which the movie was based on. He is a vampire and Charlotte Elbourne's lover, who throughout the story must resist his vampiric urge to bite and therefore turn her.

His powers include extreme regeneration, teleportation, a metal claw that replaces his hand at will, and a large cape which transforms into a pair of razor-sharp, steel wings. In the movie, his presence is enough to cause water to freeze, plants to die, and crosses to bend out of shape.

As a vampire, Meier Link is one of the few nobles who have gained the respect (although he is still loathed) of many humans and vampires alike, as he does not kill. He is also immensely powerful, yet young for a vampire. He has been known to fully regenerate mortal wounds, such as severe burns, puncture wounds, and even being sliced in half.
