Torat Shraga

Yeshivat Torat Shraga (or Yeshivas Toras Shraga) [See Taw (letter)] is a post-high school yeshiva in Bayit Vegan, Jerusalem, Israel. Rabbi Avishai David is the rosh yeshiva. It is located on the Yeshiva University Israel campus and conducts its Torah study in the Beis Medrash with the Yeshiva University Gruss Kollel. The yeshiva tries to works hand and hand with "Eit Lilmod", a learning program, which combines learning and community service, for those who find a full day learning too strenuous.

History and Program

The yeshiva opened in 2000 with only a few students, and by 2006 had 70 first-year students, 24 second-year students and 6 "madrichim" (counselors).

The "menahel" (dean) of Yeshiva Torat Shraga is Rabbi Michael Olshin of Beit Shemesh. Rabbi Olshin is not the only one from the Beit Shemesh Community. There is also Rabbi Dr. Gil Elmaleh, who is the Director of the Eit Limod Program. In addition to the rosh yeshiva, menahel, and director, there are also five other rabbis from the Beit Shemesh community. Yeshiva Torat Shraga is well known for its rebbe-student relationship. The lecturers in Torat Shraga include:

"Morning Seder": Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Avishai David, Rabbi Yitzchak Kessok, Rabbi Moshe Nechemiah Reichman (son of Rabbi Hershel Reichman), Rabbi Yonatan Sapir, Rabbi Menachem Nissel, Rabbi Avraham Lubarsky, Rabbi Moshe Willig (son of Rabbi Mordechai Willig), Rabbi David Shamula, Rabbi Avi Schneider, and Rabbi Judah Goldshmidt.

"Afternoon Seder": Rabbi Yehudah Werblowsky (son-in-law of Rabbi Hanoch Teller), Rabbi Hillel Zinkin, Rabbi Binyomin Staiman, Michael Olshin, Rabbi Avraham Willig (son of Rabbi Mordechai Willig), Rabbi Yossi Fuchs

The Yeshiva is located on Yeshiva University's Gruss Kollel Campus. The students of Yeshivat Torat Shraga and the semicha students in RIETS (Rabbi Isaac Elchonon Theological Seminary) are integrated with each other. In addition to sharing a Beit Midrash, most members of the YU Kollel take time from their busy schedule to learn with a Torat Shraga student every night. It can be from one on one, to three on one. In addition to this learning, once a week, there is a "vaad", where the students go to their assigned Gruss home and spend time there.

Torat Shraga goes on many trips throughout the year including trips to the Golan, Tsfat, and the Negev. The Yeshiva also has several Chesed activities and trips to visit Gedolim. On both Yom Ha'atzmaut and Yom Yerushalayim the Yeshiva travels to various places.
