July 15 ,1974 inSurrey, British Columbia ) is a retiredCanadian ice hockey forward.In the BCJHL while playing for Merritt Centennials, Nanaimo defenceman Bill Zapf was checked from behind in a tragic accident by future-NHL player Bill Muckalt in a game in Merritt. Zapf is now a quadriplegic from injuries sustained in the hit.
Muckalt played his college hockey with the
University of Michigan , and was a teammate of former NHLerMatt Herr . Selected in the1994 NHL Entry Draft by theVancouver Canucks , Muckalt played a season and a half with the Canucks before he was traded to theNew York Islanders . Prior to the2001–02 NHL season he was traded to theOttawa Senators in the deal that sentAlexei Yashin to the Islanders. Muckalt would also play for theMinnesota Wild , as well as theHouston Aeros in theAmerican Hockey League .Career statistics
