Sarah O'Neale (nėe Thompson) was a fictional character in the Australian soap opera "Home and Away".She joined the regular cast at the beginning of 1993 and remained until late 1994, making guest appearances in 1995 and 2005.She was portrayed by Laura Vazquez.

Character history

Sarah was first appeared when she turned at Summer Bay High to enrol in Year 11.She had grown up on a farm and the local school had closed down.While she was discussing the matter with Don Fisher and Luke Cunningham, her father Matthew arrived and tried to force her to return to the farm with him.He eventually agreed to let her continue at school but felt it was too far for her to commute.Don solved the problem by arranging for Sarah to stay with his daughter Bobby Marshall and her husband Greg.

Shortly after her arrival in the Bay, Sarah appeared to be interested in Damian Roberts but never took any action.Shortly after, Tug O'Neale returned to the area and despite the problems he'd caused in the past Sarah found herself falling for him.The pair shared a kiss after Greg's son Sam casually mentioned that he'd read about Sarah's feelings in her diary and he became her first boyfriend.She also struck up a close friendship with Angel Brooks.

Sarah seemed to experience more than a few dramas during her relationship with Tug.First, she was suffered a severe asthma attack while they were out in the bush and Tug had to leap from a cliff in order to summon help.Then, on a trip to the city, she had her bag stolen and was then nearly abducted by a man who appeared to be trying to help her.Around this time, Sarah moved out of Greg and Bobby's and started staying with Alf and Ailsa Stewart instead.This meant sharing a house with Roxanne Miller, one of her teachers, who became a big sister figure to her.

Sarah was delighted when she won a lead role in the musical Luke and Roxy were arranging, but Tug was less delighted when he discovered that his nemesis Shane Parrish would be appearing opposite her. Shane seemed to have taken the part purely in order to wind up Tug and, on the opening night, tried to humiliate him by initiating an unscripted kiss with a horrified Sarah.This resulted in Shane and Tug brawling on stage, ruining the show.Sarah was distraught and refused to have anything more to do with either of them.

Now single, Sarah received advances from some of her classmates but they all backed out of dates.Angel suspected Tug was warning them off and set Shane up as a decoy by convincing Tug that he and Sarah were an item.Not wanting to put Shane in danger, Sarah told him what Angel had done but when Tug saw them talking he attacked Shane.Sarah confronted Tug, making him see it was over between them, and they agreed to settle for being friends.

When Damian's brother Nathan arrived in town, Sarah was taken with him.Both Damian and Tug were horrified-Nathan had a history of violence and criminal behaviour and they didn't really consider him a suitable boyfriend for Sarah.Sarah was convinced Nathan had changed and began seeing him in secret, since Alf and Ailsa also disapproved.They were furious when they found out and when Sarah let their son Duncan wander out into the road while she minding him they asked her to leave.Soon after, Sarah learned that Nathan had been behind a robbery at the school and was forced to admit she had been wrong about him, managing to patch things up with Alf and Ailsa.

When Sarah and Angel sneaked into a nightclub underage, they were horrified when it was raided by the police.Sarah was caught but covered for Angel and Shane's brother Nick, one of the officers, stopped her being charged but insisted Alf and Ailsa were informed. Because of her act of loyalty, Sarah was even more hurt when she discovered a story Angel had had published in a magazine was clearly based on her relationship with Nathan.Angel had thought no-one would realise but Sarah was annoyed at her using things she'd told her in confidence and took a long time to forgive her.

As the end of school approached, Sarah found herself in demand as both Damian and Tug offered to go to the end of year formal with her as friends.She eventually chose Damian as a date(Tug went with Angel).When her father suffered a heart attack, Sarah persuaded Alf and Ailsa to let him stay with them while he recuperated.Matthew seemed keen to get Sarah and Tug back together so they could run the farm but Sarah gently told him that wasn't what she wanted and instead left the Bay to go to college.

Sarah made a brief return to the Bay in 1995 when she was a bridesmaid at Shane and Angel's wedding.In 2002, Alf reported that Sarah had married Tug and they were expecting their second child. This was reiterated in 2005 when she made an even briefer return for Alf's 60th birthday.
