Cronkhill, a country house in Shropshire near Shrewsbury, was designed by John Nash about 1802[1] for the second Lord Berwick,[2] who lived nearby at Attingham Park. The house is one of the incunabula of Italianate architecture in Great Britain.

Notes

  1. ^ A design was exhibited at the Royal Academy, 1802, as a "house near Shrewsbury" (Howard Colvin).
  2. ^ The patron was not Lord Berwick's agent and friend, Francis Walford, as reported by Colvin, for Walford was not appointed until 1804 ('Domesday Book: 1750-1875', A History of the County of Shropshire: Volume 4: Agriculture (1989), pp. 168-231. URL: http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.asp?compid=22844. Date accessed: 02 August 2006), which mentions a letter from Nash to Walford 25 March 1812, fn 29.
