Cinesphere is the world's first permanent IMAX movie theatre, built in 1971. Its design is of a triodetic-domed structure, akin to a Geodesic Dome, similar to that of the later Spaceship Earth, the icon of Walt Disney World's Epcot theme park. The theatre is located on the grounds of Ontario Place in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

  • Seating Capacity: Original 752, post 3D renovation in 2011: 615
  • In 1991, the sound system was upgraded adding digital capabilities

  • In 2011, the original projection system was replaced with an IMAX GT 3D system and new NEXIOS playback system.
  • In celebration of its 40th Anniversary in 2011 the theater closed for 6 months to undergo extensive renovations.
