commons=State Route 96, also known as SR 96, is aneast-west highway in central part of the
U.S. state ofArizona .Route description
The western terminus of SR 96 is located at an intersection with SR 97 south of Bagdad. It heads east from this junction to its eastern terminus at County Road 15 in Hillside. It was intended to serve as a route between the
Phelps Dodge copper mines at Bagdad and the railroad terminal at Hillside; until the commission of State Route 97, this road was completely isolated from the rest of the Arizona State Highway system. While some maps show SR 96 as continuing eastbound past Hillside to State Route 89 near Kirkland [http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=bagdad+rd+%26+kirkland+rd,+kirkland,+az&ie=UTF8&om=1] this is not indicated as being under ADOT jurisdiction [http://tpd.az.gov/gis/maps/pdf/MilePosts.pdf] , but rather, numbered as Yavapai County Road 15.
Junction list
The entire route is in Yavapai County.
