"Why Is There Air?" (1965) is Bill Cosby's third album. It was recorded at the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. It won the 1965 Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album.

Jerry Seinfeld states in the inner sleeve of his album "I'm Telling You for the Last Time" that this was the first comedy album he ever listened to, and that it subsequently helped inspire him to become a stand-up comedian. Seinfeld was finally able to meet Cosby in person in 2002.

The track "Hofstra" is actually an expanded re-telling of the track released on "I Started Out as a Child" as "T.V. Football", showcasing Cosby's growing ability to tell a story.

The release of this album occurred around the time that Cosby moved into the acting arena with his role as Alexander Scott in the TV series "I Spy", though he would continue to release new albums throughout the run of the series.
